Environmental education program Bocian since 2001

Slovakia was one of the first project-areas with an environmental education program.

Project partner is the department of natural science of the Eastern Slovakian Museum in Kosice, represented by RNDr. Miroslav Fulin and Eva Sitasova. An educational brochure and technical equipment required for public relations work was purchased with the help of CICONIA. A group of volunteers is in charge of running the project.

Erecting and maintaining nesting platforms and prevention of power pole related fatalities were two concrete species protection measures put into action.

2013 a new educational material has been elaborated together with the project partner in Hungary.

Habitat improvement for Black and White Storks in Orava

CICONIA has been supporting habitat improvement projects along the Polish-Slovakian border region for several years. Emphasis was put on conserving and improving a leased bog woodland and the surrounding area to benefit Black and White Storks.

Project partners are the Slovak Ornithological Society - BirdLife Slovakia in collaboration with the Ornithological Society of the Orava Museums Oravský Podzámok (OKOM) represented by RNDr. Dušan Karaska.
