CICONIA Southwest Hungary

The project area in Southwest Hungary is located in the diverse landscape of the Somogy region between Lake Balaton and the Drava river. The extraordinary naural wealth of this region is threatened by Hungary’s EU membership and the consequential changes in agricultural policies.

The subproject in Somogy consits of multiple, compatible modules.

CICONIA’s local project partner is the LNSO (representing the Zöld Folyoso Käzalapitvany Foundatio), a local nature conservation organization of the Somogy region.

In  winter 2014/2015 several former fishponds are improved within the scope of a bigger EU-project.  CICONIA helped with the necessary cofinanicng in the project.

Financed by the enlargement contribution of Switzerland a survey of protected species in the natura 2000 sites of the regions Vas, Zala and Somogy can be provided. Based on it protection management suggestions respectively plans are elaborated. CICONIA is member of the stearing committee and has helped in the project start.

CICONIA Northeast Hungary

CICONIA supports the Aggtelek Nationalpark’s mission of acquiring valuable wet grasslands in Northeastern Hungary that link existing nature reserves. The collaboration with the national park allows for long-term conservation and professional management of these areas. 38 hectares of land parcels have already been secured in this manner.

CICONIA Golya

The success of the Slovakian Bocian project paved the way for a Hungarian version, which was distributed in 2006. The Aggtelek Nationalpark was CICONIA’s project partner once again. Countless schools and numerous Hungarian districts have since received the brochures. Additionally, a stork exhibition, White Stork theme-days, and maintenance of nesting platforms complemented the project.

2013 was created a new educational program in cooperation with the Slovak partner
